The Arts and Religion in Latin America and the Southwest, 1492 to the present November 19, 2016 San Antonio, Texas (SARTS is an affiliated scholarly organization of the AAR) Proposal Deadline: March 31, 2016 The Society for the Arts in Religious and Theological Studies (SARTS) invites papers that address the reality of Hispanic and/or indigenous peoples in the area historically considered “Latin America” (including California, Florida and the Southwest) from the colonial period to the present moment.
We seek presentations that address the use of the arts in the processes of religious conversion, evangelism, worship, devotion, education, or outreach. This may include—but is not limited to—the visual, musical, poetic, literary, liturgical and performative arts as employed by Christians, Jews, Muslims, indigenous, or other religious traditions in the aforementioned geographical area.
